Leaders are now facing business conditions that did not exist a few years ago including unprecedented speed of change and global interconnection. Much of what we were taught about leadership and management is being tested and some of what we learned is no longer sufficient. We must still perform "blocking and tackling" flawlessly including: articulating a vision, linking vision to attainable strategy, and linking strategy to goals, and communicating relentlessly. In addition to blocking and tackling, leaders must also adapt to meet the challenges of the day or minute. Since the "rules of the game" have changed we must now create the rules as we go. We suggest 10 "new rules" that will increase your success.
1. Build Emotional Intelligence to convey confidence when others are concerned
2. Anticipate and plan for challenges & opportunities aggressively
3. Identify your best people - invest in talent - you cannot solve problems alone!
4. Build a strong network of people outside your organization to share ideas and collaborate - connect with the rock stars
5. Develop comprehensive solutions for your opportunities that include people, process, and technology
6. Use discipline and rigor while remaining nimble
7. Communicate, communicate, communicate
8. Create flexible responsive organizations
9. Measure results, learn and refine approaches
10. Keep an attitude of experimentation - we do not have "right answers" we have hypotheses to be tested and refined
